Happy Father’s Day!

Happy Father’s Day! For this special occasion, I think it’s time for you to get to know his progeny – what we’ve become, what we’ve done with our lives , who we are – all  because of my father’s sacrifice to keep his family safe.

One Year Cancer-Free!

Last year on June 7th, 2012 my mother Gayook went in for surgery to have 5″ malignant tumor that was sitting on her stomach removed. The technical term is GIST (Gastrointestinal Stromal Tumor).  I am relieved and happy to report she is one year cancer free today, gaining weight and getting stronger!

Happy Birthday Baba!

Happy Birthday Baba! My father, Liu Jipiao, 刘既漂 was born on June 4th, 1900! In thinking about what to write on his birthday, buried memories of the good times we had arose.

My First View of Our Nanjing House

My first time and only time  back in China since leaving in 1947 was in November of 1985. almost three decades ago. As it was then, it is once again my father’s work that’s calling my children and me back to China.

Happy Mother’s Day

Happy Mothers Day! I often think about legacy and carrying on the family name.  For most of my life it had been 3 generations of women on my mother’s side, my grandmother, my mother and myself.

Our Nanjing House Rediscovered!

Ok, so our Nanjing House Rediscovered isn’t quite accurate, we always knew it was there. No.9, Yi He Lu (頤和路), Nanjing, Jiangsu Province, China was built in 1935 as a part of the Capital Plan

Following the Bread Crumbs

Again, I am in awe at how all events are converging, how each juncture seems to lead us to the next. It is almost like the Hansel and Gretel fairy tale where they dropped bread crumbs so they could find their way back.

Zao Wu-ki (1920-2013)
