News From the Wong Family

Hello Everyone!

First I would like to apologize for the large gap between posts! Normally I was writing every week. But here’s an update on the Wong Family. It’s been crazy here ever since my brother Matthew made his baby announcement! I am happy to report that the mommy and my niece are healthy and on track. She is due to arrive in late December, early January.

I have also started Mandarin classes at Santa Monica College in the evenings after work. I hopped into Chinese 2 and have been having fun remembering all my lessons from 25 years ago! I am pleasantly surprised that my comprehension and speaking ability are still pretty good. In fact now that I don’t have the pressure of grades, etc I seem to be more relaxed and seem to do better overall. Although I have to say that I definitely need to brush up on my writing and reading skills!

Unfortunately, along with all the good news and whirlwind goings on here there is some sad news as well. As some of you already know, my mother Gayook is no longer in remission. She was recently diagnosed with another tumor. This time in her liver. It is the same type of cancer she had a couple years ago. On the up side (yes there is one) the tumor is 8x smaller than the last one! It is about 2.5cm x 2cm around. The last one was 16cm! And we beat that!

We are deciding on a treatment now. Since her last bout there are new treatments out there for her to take. We are hopeful that these will not cause as many side effects as the last drug. We are hopeful that the tumor can be shrunk to nothing so that no surgery will be required.

We have been so blessed on this journey over the past few years with new friends and wonderful new experiences! We appreciate all the support we have been given! Please keep her in your thoughts and prayers during this time. We thank you for all your well wishes!

Jenn
