Miami Art Deco Weekend

Thank you so much to the Miami Design Preservation League and the Wolfsonian Museum-FIU! I was honored to be invited to lecture for the 46th Annual Art Deco Weekend on January 13-15, 2023. The theme was “Art Deco Worldwide”.

I had never been to Miami before and throughly enjoyed myself! The art deco architecture in South Beach is gorgeous! And I was on a mission to find the best Cuban Sandwich. (I plan on returning so this mission is ongoing.)

I was excited to stay at the Tony Hotel (originally the Tiffany Hotel) The spire on the rooftop is iconic to South Beach. The story goes that Tiffany’s sued the hotel because of the name and wanted the spire changed or taken down. The hotel changed their name but the spire was protected as a historical landmark so that got to stay!

I was very excited to meet several people of Hakka descent that came to the lecture as well as professors and art deco aficionados interested enough to brave the cold (record cold for Florida!!!) to make it there! Thank you all so much for sharing your stories and insights with me after the lecture!!

Here is the YouTube video of the presentation posted by the MDLP on their channel. Here

Congratulations, Jennifer. Your reputation is getting wider. Glad that you had a good time in Miami. The Tiffany Hotel looks elegant.
