In Loving Memory – Gayook Wong (1943-2021)

With deepest sadness…My mother, Gayook Wong, eldest daughter of Liu Jipiao, passed away on Wednesday, September 1, 2021.

She died peacefully at home, surrounded by her loved ones after battling cancer (GIST) for over 10 years. In the end, the cancer was too aggressive for the medications out there. But she was lucid and still talking about the book she was writing the night before. She made the most of her last 10 years by traveling and living in France, Costa Rica, Mexico, Vancouver and the East Coast.

She came to America at 3 and half years old, fleeing from China with her parents in the middle of the night. Transferring from a plane to a boat to debark in San Francisco and travel cross country to New York City. Struggling with a new language and a foreign culture she was a child of 2 worlds having to deal with racism and sexism in the 1950’s. Ultimately, she used that struggle and the lessons it taught her to help others.

Her work as a therapist, social worker and Qi Gong Healer brought her in contact with many people and she touched many lives with her wisdom, strength and caring.

We are grateful for the outpouring of love and support to all who have reached out to our family. Should you want to share experience with others who loved her you can on her memorial page https://link.inmemori.com/Itj1ZE.

We will miss her always.
